Clinic location (Werribee) and why Brimbank clients choose us
Although our clinic is based in Werribee (Wyndham), many families and adults in Brimbank choose to travel for an assessment service that is:
- structured and thorough
- clear about fees, timeframes and next steps
- suitable for children, adolescents and adults
- able to provide a written report with practical recommendations
If you’re in Sunshine, St Albans, Deer Park, Sydenham or nearby suburbs, travelling to Werribee can be a workable option—particularly when you want a clear assessment pathway and a report you can use to guide supports across settings (e.g., home, school, work).
Who autism assessment is for (Brimbank)
People enquire about autism assessment when they (or their child) experience things such as:
- longstanding differences in social communication
- difficulty navigating friendships, relationships, or social expectations
- sensory sensitivities and/or a strong need for routine and predictability
- finding change or uncertainty particularly stressful
- challenges at school, work, or in day-to-day functioning that may relate to autistic traits
- questions about whether lifelong patterns may reflect autism
We assess children, adolescents and adults.
Autism assessment for Sunshine
People seeking assessment in Sunshine often want clarity they can act on—especially when there are mixed messages from different settings (home vs school, or work vs social situations).
For families, it can help to plan assessment days around school schedules and allow extra travel time. For adults, we can discuss the most appropriate way to gather developmental history depending on what information is available (e.g., whether a parent/caregiver can contribute, and what records may exist).
Autism assessment for St Albans
We also see many clients from St Albans and surrounding suburbs. Some people choose to travel to Werribee for assessment because it offers:
- a defined assessment pathway (so you know what happens next)
- a comprehensive written report
- a feedback appointment to discuss findings and practical recommendations
If you’re unsure whether travel is manageable, contact us and we can talk through what the assessment typically involves and what appointment structure may suit your circumstances.
What the assessment involves (overview)
Autism assessments at Growth Minded Psychology are conducted by Julian O’Sullivan (Psychologist) and are tailored to the person being assessed and the referral question.

Assessments may include a combination of:
- Interview / developmental history
- Children: typically a caregiver developmental history interview (often using the ADI-R, where clinically appropriate)
- Adults: an interview and developmental history. Where possible and appropriate, this is ideally completed with a parent/caregiver using the ADI-R. If a parent/caregiver is not available, the interview is completed with the adult being assessed and developmental history is gathered from other sources where possible.
- Direct assessment session (ADOS-2 where clinically appropriate)
A structured observation session with the person being assessed. - Additional information gathering (with consent, if needed)
This may include input from educators/teachers or review of prior reports/records. - Report writing and a feedback session to discuss findings and recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions (City of Brimbank)
Do you see clients from Sunshine and St Albans?
Yes. We regularly see clients who travel from the City of Brimbank (including Sunshine and St Albans) to our Werribee clinic for autism assessment.
Is this assessment available for adults as well as children?
Yes. We assess adults as well as children and adolescents.
Do I need a referral to book an autism assessment?
Referrals can be helpful but are not always required. If you are seeking Medicare rebates for eligible under-18 appointments, specific referral pathways may apply—please contact reception and we can clarify what applies.
Can you include school or kinder information?
With consent, this can be included if it’s clinically helpful—particularly when we need to understand how a child is functioning across settings.
What if a parent/caregiver can’t participate in an adult assessment?
Where possible and appropriate, developmental history from a parent/caregiver is very helpful. If that isn’t available, we can proceed with an adult interview and seek developmental history from other sources where possible (e.g., records/reports, partner/family input with consent).
How long does it usually take to receive the report?
Reports are typically provided within 2–6 weeks after the final assessment session, depending on complexity and information gathering.
